My word for 2025…

Over the past couple of years, I've seen the idea of setting a “word of the year” become more and more popular.

And it's an idea that I really, really like.

At the start of 2024, I'd have said I wanted my word of the year to be “creative”. But on reflection I'd say my word for 2024 was definitely “transition”. My little business evolved SO much in 2024, and it was definitely more of a transition period where I:

  • Settled into full-time freelancing

  • Figured out where I wanted to take the business.

Spoiler alert: I'm still not 100% sure, although I know what I don't want my business to be, so that's something right?

But when it came to choosing a word for 2025, there wasn't a lot of reflection needed. Instead one overwhelming feeling came to mind…

EXCITEMENT

It’s something I’ve been missing within my business for a while. Where I’m putting the work in, not because I want to, but because I have to. It’s made me feel a little bored with my business if I’m being completely honest with you. And that’s not at all what I wanted when I started my business.

I started it to:

  • Be creative

  • Work in a way that suits me and my brain

  • Provide time and location freedom

And so it may be time for the business to evolve a little more. It’s time to do some deep thinking and figure out what I want my business to look like, and let excitement be a big part of my decision making.

It’s time to experiment a little.

It’s time to CRAVE creativity and feel excited about what I can create, both for myself, and my clients.

Who knows what form this might take, although this weeks brainstorming has already helped provide a huge amount of clarity. But it’s fair to say Beth Hicks Creative/Beth Hicks Digital is going to look very different by the end of 2025.

And I cannot wait.
